Cadaveric organ donation in Karnataka has been reaching good numbers, but the people behind the process often go unnoticed.

The progress begins in the ICU when a doctor announces that a patient is brain dead. Hospitals coordinate with the Jeevasarthakathe-State organ and Tissue Transplant organisation (JSK-SOTTO) team, and people who are involved give it their 100 per cent to ensure that organ donation is carried out successfully. From the grief counsellors to the blood bank, forensic department, traffic police, and ambulance drivers – all are heroes. In cases where the organs go to different countries, it is the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) who play a crucial role to ensure the organ reaches the air craft in no time.
